Desperate Answers
It is time to update my blog again. As you may have read or heard New Orleans might bear the brunt of another major hurricane in a few days. We are living about 4 hours from that city. Our town, Leesville (or sometimes known among some outsiders as Sleazeville) may be affected. The town's officials have not issued any mandatory evacuation yet but most of us think it is better to be safe than sorry. We are going to play it by ear and see which direction the hurricane takes. If it makes landfall in New Orleans, we will go west. However, if it suddenly veers towards Texas, then we head up north. If for some reason, it goes off the projected track, then we are staying. Even with contingency plans in place, I wish there was a way to predict the exact track. That way, everyone affected will know what to expect. I guess in a time like this, all we can do is live the motto "Be Prepared".
The current projected path. My location is between 8pm, Tuesday and 8pm, Wednesday.
Update: It is now projected to make landfall midday Monday
2nd Update (4th sep 08): I am back in Louisiana. Thankfully my area did not suffer much damage.
Anyway, to lighten things up a bit, here are some examples of desperation:
(don't ask me to solve any, I may give similar desperate answers). :D

LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily I'd finished up my last sip of coffee before reading this. I've seen some of these "desperate answers" before and they never fail to crack me up!
While they may not be the correct answers, they should at least get points for creativity ;)
At least...that's what I would tell MY teachers back then; though they never seemed to agree with me. Hmm..

haha ... these desperate answers remind me of the time when I was helping my Maths tuition teacher (yes, I was that bad in that subject!) sort out some English essay papers (he was English and Maths teacher in the school where he worked).
There was a desperate student who did not know how else to tell a story in English, he switched to BM i.e. "And then, he tak boleh control his basikal, he suddenly bang the tiang" To add to his essay, he drew a lidi stick figure on a bicycle hitting a lamp post. LOL
I thought that was rather creative because he wanted to get the message across but not to the teacher. Laughed he did, but the student had lots of red circles on his essay. :)
When I don't know how to answer a question, I'd rather leave it blank... unless I can be very sure I won't be meeting the teacher/examiner ever again... :)
Dear JT
We shall pray that you & your family be safe from harm. Hope the hurricane will not come close to where you are. Hugs JT.

JT, hope u guys are ok and not affected by gustav.
Iv seen some of those and the 'expand' one always crack me up. lol.
Hi Pi
Sort of a hit and run, huh? :D
Dear Mush
Thank you *hugs* ... We need the prayers. Although we are out of harm's way (left town early Monday morning before bad weather hit my area), I am worried about our house and some of my neighbours who stayed back. Weather report shows that my area has been raining since Monday morning. It is not going to stop until Wednesday afternoon. Wind conditions during a tropical storm may cause things to break and/or fly around and damage property.
You know, a few weeks ago it was sooo hot that I wished for some rain ....
I have to be careful what I wish for. :D
Farina,
Thanks for your concern. We are ok but our residential area is definitely going to be affected in some way. This is a huge storm.
Yeah, I too find the "expand" answer hilarious. :D
desperately seeking answers *LOL*
on a serious note, i pray that you and family are safe from harm. take care.
KC
Hi KC
We are safe away from harm but can't help worrying about our house.
Thanks and you take care too.
JT,
Thank God you're okay... was a bit worried. After all, my mum and sis lived in Metairie a while and I can't imagine the devastation years later...
Hey Jacqui, Glad you guys are safe.. Here after a long time.. come back and start posting full steam..
I love this 'Find X' bit .. :)
Hi Mat Salo
I am glad we got out in time. Our neighbours were braver - they stayed back. But I am thankful, in a way, someone was there to give us an update on the condition of our area after the storm had passed through or we would still be sitting here wondering and worrying if our property was ok. We will be returning to Louisiana tomorrow.
Metairie is close to New Orleans (east). I heard they suffered tremendously during Hurricane Katrina. Yet to know what Gustav did to it.
Thanks for your concern. :)
Hi Rashi
Thanks for your note in Facebook.
I will try to come back to blogging more regularly. I can't help getting side-tracked by Facebook. haha
Must make it a point to start blog hopping too. I've been away too long. :)
HAHA! This is just too funny!! Wished I was as creative with my math answers!! I just left mine blank when I was stumped!
I just love the answer to Expand, and Find x! Hahaha ..... really!
Hi Puteri
Yeah, that is one of the funniest. I would never think of expanding it that way. haha
I probably would have been tempted to circle 'x' but if that did happen in the past, it would have been best to leave it blank and not upset the teacher. Most of my math teachers were fierce. :D
