My Writuals

I was tagged sometime back by Elviza and was honoured to be counted as a writer in her eyes. I assure you I am anything but. Half the time, I do not know what to write about. What sounds good in my head is quite the opposite when it is typed out. That is when I imagine the reader having more interest in the writings of a struggling student in school.

Then again, I should not be too hard on myself. I have not been writing much because another social networking activity has distracted me on top of my other interests. My muse must be burnt out from multi-tasking in Facebook, my garden and kitchen.

So, what are my Writuals (when I am actually writing something other than e-mails)? Read on ...

Where are you?

In a semi-dark living room, TV switched off, with me sitting in my chair and the laptop on a stand in front of me.

What are you writing with?

The gifts of ten fingers (counting the days to arthiritis), a pair of eyes (which needed the help of spectacles 15 years ago) and a hand-me-down laptop.
(Everything's aching right now! yes, even the laptop - he acts erratically when I make him multi-task and expect him to process quickly. Typical male, no?).

What's the oddest object in front of you?

My pencil sharpener/holder which I use as a paper weight. I am not sticking the pencil in it. You know where it goes. :P
(I bought this more than a decade ago when I was working in Kuala Lumpur.)

What are you listening to?

Usually when I want to write, it has to be silent. When I am doing other things like banking and emailing, my TV would be on either the news channel, comedy channel or a current TV series.

Is there anyone else in the room?

My faithful four-legged companion, Peanut, that sleeps on the ottoman. Sometimes he shares the chair with me with his head on my lap.

What time of day is it?

To write - whenever.
Right now, I am taking a break from working in the garden - 5:45pm

What do you look at when you're looking for inspiration?

Outside where I see the road in a distance with cars and trucks zooming by occasionally on a 25mph street (where are the police when you need them?). Sometimes, I get up from my chair and look at my backyard. The green, the neighbour's horses and just the quiet of country life gives me some kind of inspiration.

What is guaranteed to remove your concentration?

1. The phone ringing - mostly from telemarketers.
2. The dog barking for no good reason, which is rare. He sleeps most of the time.
3. Husband walking into the room - suddenly I am not alone (don't count the dog, he does not speak!) :P

Oo...when I have time to next, I'm going to have to "curi-curi" this one from you (with my own answers of course), if you don't mind.
Lately I've been cranky, so this will be a good break from the norm of rantings. LoL.

Hey Nicole

Sure, not a problem. I usually tag others when I respond to a tag but this time I forgot to add that at the end. That only shows how rarely I blog/blog hop these days. :)

Well, this tag is open. Help yourself. Let me know when you have done it.

Hope you are feeling better.

JT - welcome back to blogging - nice to read of others' writuals - I have yet to do mine as I intend to do my raya postings first and also am down with flu and coughs and what nots!
Take care.

Hey Jacqui,

You sure sound like a writer to me! Hehe...All quiet, and 'secluded', and inspirational, with some teensy quirk every now and then...

=)

Hope everything else is going well with ya...

Take care...

Hi Kak Teh

I figured it is about time I started blogging a little more. Never mind if I have nothing to write about ... hmmm. Does that work? :)

Sorry to hear you are not feeling under the weather. Could it be the changing temperatures?
Hope you had a good Raya celebration. Look forward to reading your writuals. I will try to drop by your blog in the next few days.

Take care and get well soon.

Hey Daphne

How's it going in Toronto? Hope all is well with you.

Sounds like a writer huh? Thanks. More like 'sesat' writer. :P
... but I am glad to be able to write when I have the inspiration.

Take care too.

dear JT,

i just want to comment on yr backyard in below entry. that is one serene backyard. i could just sit under those shady trees watching the horses resting or feeding on the grass all day..

and i liked the way u answered all yr tags. very innovative and humorous. i guess that is the hallmark of a good writer eh..

Speaking of dog barking for no reason, does Peanut's bark make you jump out of your seat? One bark is enough to make me jump, but with all three at the same time in the house, it's like a bark through loud speaker and it actually hurt the ears.

JT,
This reminds me that I have been tagged by Elviza too and I promised her that I will be doing it after Raya. Now Raya is way past and I havent't got a clue on how to do it in a way that it will be worth glancing at. Some tags are tough to do well and this one is definitely a tough one for me.

Hello KC

The atmostphere at the back is really nice in the early hours of the morning. Although it is fairly quiet during the day too, there is a sense of calm before the day starts.

Thank you for the compliments. I hope I am half as good as some good writers out there. :)

Hi Dawn

Oh yeah, when Peanut barks all of a sudden, I get a fright. It is worse when I don't hear a thing and he barks for no reason. Spooky. :P

Hi Zawi

You write more often than I do. I am sure when you do this tag, it will be worth reading. I found my inspiration to do this tag when I was gardening. So, when I took my break, I went to the computer immediately. :)

You know what I just realised? I did not wish you Selamat Hari Raya. Aiyoo ... so forgetful.
I hope it was enjoyable.

I like your pencil sharpener/holder, lol! Where did you buy it?

Hey Julie

LOL ... oh dear! I forgot. It was more than a decade ago. All I remember is that it came from one of the gift shops that sells stuff like Memory Lane does.
