Random sharings

I have the same complaint - I do not know what to blog about (what?? again??). I could talk about the folks around here but there isn't much to share. I hardly see my neighbours around unless I take my dog for a walk, pick up my mail from the post box or when I am washing our vehicles. Truth be told, the conversations I have with a couple of neighbours are just not worth repeating. It is like those kind I used to get in Malaysia when I am at the train station and a familiar face comes up to me and asks "waiting for train ah?"

Of course, I cannot say it is the same for all the neighbours. The one that lives next door is very friendly. Whenever she comes to town (she lives outside New Orleans and keeps a house here as a getaway), she makes sure we get together to do something. So far, we have exchanged home-made cakes and gone out for a picnic with her family.

One interesting thing I have noticed is that everyone around me has stopped cleaning up their gardens. So now, I don't feel bad neglecting the leaves strewn all over the lawn. If I think my lawn looks bad, I just have to look over the fence and feel better. :) Some say it is good to leave a layer of leaves on the ground. That way the grass will not freeze on some cold mornings. I have yet to see temperatures dip down to zero degrees celsius and as hard as I try to ignore the garden, it is getting unbearably ugly. Then again, there is no point in my raking leaves today because mother nature will present me with a fresh blanket of dead, crispy leaves tomorrow. One thing I can appreciate about this season, there are some interesting plants I have not noticed before. Here are pictures of what is growing in my garden. A garden which is yet to be cultivated or landscaped to the way I want it. It will take some years and money. Slowly but surely.

What shall I blog about? I could talk about what took place over Thanksgiving but there is nothing much to share except the excitement of meeting a couple of in-laws I have not seen in some years. It was fun catching up with them. Food was good too. That resulted in some men sleeping in front of the TV after a huge meal. (By the way, I did not notice any unbuckled belts or unbutton pants - a much talked about behaviour of some men after a big meal). You'd think that a huge meal would have been enough for them. No siree ... after a couple of hours, the men woke up for dessert and joined in the laughter and conversation.

Here are pictures taken on Thanksgiving Day.

So, that was my I-don't-know-what-to-blog-about post. Before I sign off, here is one of my favourite ads of the season, which I know my male readers will appreciate ...

jt,
I guess I am luckier in that I have so much to blog about and I have either made points in my note book or made an almost complete draft of it. I dont like to draft on blogger as it rarely give me much room to improvise later when posting.
Rather difficult to help you there but I guess the simplest of things can turn out to be much appreciated by our friends so I just go ahead regardless of what is the outcome. I guess you could do the same too.
Have a good day.

JT have you seen the state of my blog? Look at the date of my last post - but then again - I think I'll do it your way and write about I dont know what to blog about.
Am heading home today - food, glorious food!

hey JT.... anything to share regarding my latest post? :)

Well, in Lyon the temperature had already gone under 0°C several weeks ago, and it's doing some crazy fluctuations... up to 10° some days and into the negatives the next few days...

It's nice to see that the neighbours are friendly...here I hardly know my neighbours, there's just the occasional "hello" when we pass each other in the corridor/hall. Still, I didn't take the initiative to talk to them either...so it might be my fault!

You know JT, whenever my mom says she doesn't know what to cook today, we'd usually end up having even more food on the table!

Maybe the same principle applies to blogging as well?? ;)

Hi Jacqui ... Pi Bani is so right. For someone who has nothing to blog about, you come up with some delightful reads. :)

Nice pictures, too. Your home looks cozy and warm. What is the name of those yellow blooms? Do they droop naturally or are they withering??

Hello Zawi

It has been suggested that I write random thoughts in a note book and use it for my blog when I am ready. (I believe it was Angel Eyes who said that). However, I have not been able to get into that habit yet. I find writing something randomly in my blog works for me. If I do come up with something ... and I feel there is more to be added, then I just save it as draft in blogger until I am ready to publish it.

You are right, the simplest thing can turn out to be one that is much appreciated by our friends.

Hi Kak Teh

Thanks for the mentioning me in your blog. I am honoured. I guess sometimes when we say we have nothing to say, we say more than we do. :D

I wish I was in your place ... going home. I am so missing the family and food back home. Once all the hellos and hugs are out of the way, it is usually foods galore. :) I am not sure when I am returning but I am hoping early next year.

Have a good trip, Kak Teh.

Hi Zewt

Sorry I have not been visiting your blog in a while. I have been so caught up with things around here. I try to blog hop when I can.
I will pop over soon and give my two-cents worth on ghosts. For a sneak preview, let's just say I believe in them cos' I have experienced spooky feelings caused by not-so-good spirits present. :)

Hello WP

Seems like the weather has been doing some serious cha-cha around the world. It has been unusual for our area (Louisiana). We are finally getting some cool autumn weather (averaging 10C-15C). I think we will have a short winter this year.

When I was living in Germany, it was the same for me - hi and bye with the neighbours. I hardly had conversations with them because of the language. I was afraid if I carried a simple conversation, it might lead to words I won't understand and that will ultimately evolve to sign language or frustration. :D

J.T. said...

Hi Winnie

I dropped by your blog and saw that you have already put a notice of your break. Well, take your time. Blogging should be fun. After much stress I put myself through, I decided sometime back to slow down.

That table setting was the work of my sister in law and her brother in law. When I woke up early Thanksgiving day (mind you, 8:30am is early on a holiday), the table was already set. They did a great job.

And that Angel.. well, I am glad I am not the only female who appreciates such cuteness. :D
I think she (Miranda Kerr) will be another popular Victoria Secret girl in time to come (much like how Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen found fame with that company).

Hello Akmal

I guess I could take a few more photos in my under-cultivated/landscaped garden to show what else mother nature has given me. ;)

J.T. said...

Hi Pearly

I am glad I am not alone with the blogging headache. :)
These days, blog hopping is more fun. I don't have to think as much as I do when I try to publish a post.

You have a point about people staying indoors during the cold season. I cannot imagine standing in my garden, teeth chattering away and trying to hold a conversation. It is so much nicer being in a warm house. :)

J.T. said...

Hi Pi

I guess you are right. We could apply the same principle to blogging ... and many other things in life. I suppose it is that way because we are not trying to control a situation.

I remember when my mom used to tell me that she had no mood to cook but prepared something simple. When I get home I find that her simplest dish was heavenly. :)

J.T. said...

Hi KC

Ah! you've said it - delectable! I just find that ad ultimately delectable.

My picture is no where in sight because I did not like my photos taken during the Thanksgiving reunion. :)

Anyway, usually if I have nothing to blog about, I would share jokes or words of wisdom from my archives but I thought I'd spare my readers another dose of it seeing that the last one was something I pulled out from a forwarded email. :)
Posting pictures is a good idea. I should go look for some interesting ones for the next post.

J.T. said...

Hi Rita

Thanks for the compliments. I am happy that my simplest effort is appreciated. :)

That home is my sister in law's, where Thanksgiving celebrations took place. She is standing second from the left.

Those yellow blooms droop naturally. Sorry, I do not know the name. They look like bells, don't they?

Hello Princess Farina

The setting was lovely, wasn't it? We had 12 adults for our meal.

By the way, I am still not able to visit your blog. For some reason, the minute I get in there, my browser shuts down on me. Wish I could read your postings. sigh

Take care and we will keep in touch via Facebook and email. :)

Hi JT,

Oh I'm already in love with your garden. It looks so natural. Yeah! I agree with Akmal, the yellow flower shrub is so gorgeous and the other red berry shrub (sorry don't know any name).

Oh with that setting I can see you guys had a lovely time.

No ideas to blog is a common phenomenon with people who have been at it for a couple of years. Me too lah JT, BUT nevertheless your random thoughts went well.

Your friends look like wonderful people in the photo.

Ahh..that ad, woo hoo. Beautiful girl. It is natural girls would ogle at beauty too, for it is motivation ain't it? Ok JT, got to do some chest pumps now..1234, 1234...Ha ha.

Hey woman,

This blogging is beginning to become such a huge responsibility sometimes. I feel guilty when I have not blogged for a while. Sometimes its because I'm extremely busy. Other times its because I can't think of anything to blog about - oh the sheer torture of being a writer ... he he he

Happy Thanksgiving Day...belated heh?

Hi Ruby

I have to thank the previous owner for taking the trouble to put those two pretty plants in the garden, among other greens.

As for blogging, I just started early this year and it seemed like I was running out of ideas too soon. I could blame it on the unsettling phases I have been through i.e. moving from country to country, packing and unpacking, house-hunting, etc. If I take all that into consideration, I have to say I have managed to stay afloat with blogging. :)

I take my hat off to Pak Idrus who has been able to blog for years. I hope I get to stay active as long as he has.

The people in that group photo are my in-laws with my husband (far right). I should have mentioned that there were my relatives but I was not sure if they would appreciate their names going public. Sorry about that.

That girl in the ad is just too cute. Nice body too. An inspiration and motivation... :D

And Ruby, while you are working on the chest pumps, repeat this, "I must, I must, I must increase my bust". haha

J.T. said...

Hi Patsy

So nice of you to drop by ... after much urging and crying (so pitiful) from me. If you stayed away longer, there will be much lamenting, wailing and beating of breasts. hahaha

I figured you owed me a visit. After all I just helped you update your blog (your writing, my copy and paste... haha). ;)

I know what you mean about not having any idea what to blog about. Maybe after my next visit to Malaysia (and the nonsense we get ourselves into), you will have some material. :D

J.T. said...

Hi Raden

I know. It is ironic, isn't it? When I think out loudly and share that I do not have anything to blog about, a piece magically appears. :D

I love the four season in the year but I am afraid I won't see the full force of those seasons here. I enjoyed it very much when I was in Europe. I guess if I go up north (USA), I will be able to enjoy the changing seasons better.

Thanks for the belated Thanksgiving wish. In a few weeks, Christmas will be upon us. I can't wait for the New Year to arrive. I am so ready for 2008. :)

J.T. said...

Hi Nyonya Penang

Thanks for your kind words.

I too hope that I will be able to cultivate the garden ... if we don't move. That is another reason why I am not putting too much effort in my garden. It would be so heartbreaking to put my heart and soul into some back-breaking work in the yard and then move away.
We will see. :)

That model is certainly a delectable creature. I will probably catch her on the Victoria Secret fashion show on TV tonight.
psst.. some men may come home early from work today (and won't be sleeping tonight!). :D

J.T. said...

Hey Rashi

I have noticed you have been away from your blog. Happy to know that your offline life is more interesting. Enjoy it and if there is anything you would like to share from that part of your life on your blog, I will be waiting for the scoop. ;)

J.T. said...

Daphne dear...

Are you still on your school break or back in Penang?

Oh my ... "masterpiece" is taking it a bit too far lar. I am glad my thoughts flowed, which seldom happens when I try to write something. Muddled brain is the cause of it.

If there is to be any conspiracy, I swear it is happening within my body. :) "Conspiracy of the Anatomy".

J.T. said...

Hi Princess Farina

I have been pretty busy and hardly blog hop (well, not as frequent as before). Since I had many 'close downs' when I attempted to visit your blog before, I took a break from trying to visit it. I guess the last time I tried was about 2 weeks ago. (I took a break because each time I got kicked out, whatever windows I had opened, shut down on me).

This time I made sure I was done with whatever I wanted to do with my browser windows and tried again. yippee!
I finally got in. I don't know what changed but I was surprised I did not get kicked out.

I am glad I can get in now. See you in your blog. :)

I just noticed your note on my blog. Actually I myself have time problems. I just insist on myself to write even when i have nothing much on my mind. Sometimes it just takes a line or two over some random conversation to spark an idea. I collect these ideas and thoughts on a file in my computer and sometimes I continue to write on it and it turns into an article. Just create a habit of it, and leave to rest to God and creativity.
I don't think much of my writing skills, however many of my friends disagree. and they seem to like it a lot. That is my driving force.

It also helps when you read a lot, and I believe you do. Just broaden the types of books you read. I personally find the classics a great help (Oscar Wilde is one of my favourites). Movies also help spark ideas.

I guess the trick is to keep your mind open and record every spark until something lights into a burning inferno.

Most importantly, have fun writing.

Jacqui, this "don't know what to write about" disease is contagious! I'm having it too! It SO doesn't help that whatever I think does not flow well, and are a complete mish-mash.

Help!

Hi JT, couldn't help smiling read you don't know what to blog, then come up with interesting subjects. Shows you are innovative.
I have been trying to repair my blog header scenery, that beautiful moonlight scene. For some reason or other it has been clipped 3/4, cannot see the sea. Wonder why, told Puteri I need a bomoh. Ha ha.
Nice pics you have here. Where's yours?
You have a nice day, JT. Is it cold your place?
Its abit chilly here, about -10'c, lots of ice and snow too. But I love it, should see my Lincoln do the Tango and waltz on the roads, ha ha. Lee.

Thanks for visiting my blog the other day.

J.T. said...

Hi Victor

It sure has been years since I've seen or spoken to you. Hope all is well on your side.

Thanks for the tips. I realise I have to read more (and make notes for future use) but I don't know when will I find the time again. That luxury of burying myself in books is long gone. It has been months since I have been able to concentrate on a book.

I am hoping I will have a more relaxing 2008. Time seems to fly by faster these days, don't you think? :)

Thanks for visiting, Victor.

J.T. said...

Hi Blueberry

Ah! I am in good company. I completely understand how you feel. That frustration when words just won't flow. It is so pathetic, I tell you. :D

Why don't you write something about nothing? ;)

J.T. said...

Hi Lee

Thank you for your kind words. I was surprised myself when I managed to complete this post. :)

By the way, I have been trying to do the same - repair my blog header scenery. For some reason, none of my pictures are appearing in full. I too get a quarter of the picture. Strange huh? Maybe I should email Blogger's administrators and tell them about it. (when you order you bomoh, please don't forget to send him over to my blog. haha)

I am not in any of those pictures posted because I did not like my photos taken over Thanksgiving. Hopefully I will have better ones soon. :)

It has been mildly cold here, averaging 6'C. We are in for warmer weather next week. It may climb up to 15'C.
As much as I miss seeing the snow (it is so pretty), I do not miss the freezing temperatures ... and the slippery roads. Luckily it is still cool enough for me to wear my favourite boots and jackets. :)

You have a good day too, Lee.

Cheers!

J.T. said...

Hello Kak Ton

That's right - I wrote about nothing. :D (reminds me of the sitcom 'Seinfeld' when one of their characters, George, tried to introduce a show about nothing ... and it worked!).

Have a great day, Kak Ton.

J.T. said...

Hi Trueblue

:D ... that is the irony of it all.

J.T. said...

Hello Mat Salo

No worries about arriving here late. I have slowed down myself because of other things that are taking up my time ... plus a brain that sometimes refuses to cooperate with me. :)
These days, I find that I am late visiting some blogs ... and even miss some. Is there anyway to have more than 24 hours a day? :P

Blog about my dog? hmm... I guess I could ... again. :) Thanks for the idea.

As for snow where I live ... as far as I know, it has not in many years. Then again, I have known this area for a little over than a year. It can get cold but it is bearable. There is much to talk about the weather among the folks here when temperatures dip to freezing levels. :) (that's how rare it is)

J.T. said...

Hi Blueberry

You've got it - I don't know what to write about. Mat Salo has suggested to write about my dog. I may ... as soon as I can. It does take time for me to sit down and concentrate on writing. In fact, it feels like it is too much of an effort right now, which causes some stress. I am not going to stress over blogging. It is supposed to be fun, right?

Hang in there. I will return with something ... even if I have to pull something out from my archives. :)
