Back to Life .. in Germany!

Happy New Year, y'all. I am back to blogging. It has certainly been a much enjoyed break. I am still busy with Facebook and see that as my first tool of communication these days but hope to be able to juggle blogging too.

By the way, I am back in Deutschland! We moved back here mid-December and hope to be around for a while. This time, we moved with a dog in tow. I thought it would be complicated to transport a dog ourselves but it turned out painless. Well, at least between USA and Germany. So, we saved a lot of $$$ taking care of it ourselves. I am hoping when it is time to return to the States, it would prove just as easy.

As I write this, Peanut is fast asleep on one of our recliners. He has learned that it is not so fun staying out too long in sub-zero temperatures. The pond in the garden of the house we are renting is frozen on top and am amazed that the fishes are still alive at the bottom. The landlord said that we do not have to feed them until they start swimming up and around.

We are waiting for the Germans (well ... the ones that affect our comfort) to get back to work. They take their holidays seriously and long, I might add. We arrived at a time when the country was in a holiday mood and some of them won't return to work till the 7th of January!! We need to get our internet connections and satellite ordered and set up.

The only reason I am able to get online these days is because the landlord's son was kind enough to lend us his web n' walk device (internet connection anywhere). He will need it when he goes back to work, though, and I worry that I may be off line for a week or two from the end of next week. I am getting too old for inconveniences like these. Oh wait ... I am getting too spoilt with the communication tools of today. I wonder how I got on without internet connection at home back in 2001. It was sufficient to just check emails every other day at the library. Keeping my fingers crossed all will work out for the best.

Now, if you will excuse me, Peanut needs a bathroom break and he has the whole garden to himself. Happy Freezing your ... off, boy! :D

Hello Dalilah

Hello JT,

Hey s nice to see you blogging again even irregularly, it's ok.

Ha ha Pi asking for Peanut in German? No, Peanut sounds cuter..he he.

Oh dear of course freezing ain't it?

Here's wishing you again after Facebook wish, Happy New Year.

Hello Kak Teh

Thank you for the wishes. Being in Germany does put me closer to Malaysia too. No plans to return just yet but at least this time my flight home will not be at least 26 hours. :)

Happy New Year to you and your family. Cheers!

Hello Akmal

Thank you for the enthusiastic welcome. :)
Happy New Year to you too. All the best for 2009.

Hello Ruby

Yes, I am back to blogging although it may be irregular. It all depends on my routine I will settle into in a month or two. Still waiting for shipment of our cars so that I can independently go places myself and set a routine. :)

haha .. Peanut does sound cuter. Hard to imagine him an 'Erdnuss'.

Weather wise, you are right, it is freezing. The past few days have been sub-zero temperatures (averaging -7C). It snowed a little today. The little pond looks like a mini skating rink - imagining liliputians having a winter fest there. haha

Thanks for the New Year wishes. More is always welcomed. And you have a great year yourself.

Cheers!

Hi Julie

Someday this pindah-randah will end - probably when we retire. For now, we go where opportunities present itself.

Cheers! Happy New Year. Hope to see you when I return home the next time. Victoria Station again? :)

Hi Farina

LOL ... tried it and Peanut ignored me.

Now what did you do? "Borrowed" neighbour's wi-fi connection? :)
I would if I could but I think our neighbours do not have it or our laptops would have picked up the connection.

Hallo JT, wie geht es Ihnen? Sie Kerle unterstützen in Deutschland… wieder? Wow! Hoffen Sie, dass das Wetter okay ist.
You must be getting to be an expert at moving, ha ha.
But I think its nice to stay in different countries....and Germany? Think of the fabulous beer, River Rhine, and high speed driving on the autobahn.

You keep well JT, auf wiedersen. Lee.

J.T. said...

Hello Lee

I am fine, thank you. Das Wetter ist nicht gut - so kalt!!! :D
Expert at moving? Well, I won't admit to that. Rather, each time we move, it gets a little easier. Of course, the stress of it gets worse because of age. haha

Hoping for Spring to come soon so that I can start exploring places I missed before.

You keep well too, Lee. Auf Wiedersehen.

Hi Jacqui,

Happy New Year to you too! And you move again...It's been like, what? 1 year?

Gosh...And with a doggie too...

I'm marinating in sub-zero's too...It's gonna be -25 tomorrow, with wind-chill...

Anyway, hope to catch you online or something, sometime...

The good news with you back in Germany is, I have someone to stay with should I choose to visit! Haha...*Winks*

(Really pushing my luck, eh?)

Hi J.T,

Happy New Year to you, Mitch and little Peanut. Wow, you are back in awesome Europe! How did Peanut take the long flight?

It's cold here, too, (what's new in MN?). The 3 boys are enjoying it more than anybody else!

Do you guys have a lot of snow in Germany?

Hello Daphne

Yup.. back in Germany. We were in the States for about 1.5 years before moving again.
By the way, it wasn't too bad getting papers together for Peanut. It would have cost us about $2.000 more if we used a pet travel service. It helped that the German Consulate was very efficient in responding to my enquiries and the vet knew exactly how to get such documents filed and stamped for transfer of pet.

It is cold here too but not as cold as what you are experiencing. Today's temperature was -12C. Stay warm.

I hope to catch you online someday when we have things set up at home.

Take care, Daphne.

psst.. you are not pushing your luck. :)

Hi Dawn

Happy New Year to you, DB and the boys.

I was so worried about Peanut travelling but he did good. I managed to get a glimpse of the airport baggage personnel loading his kennel into the plane (in Louisiana) and unloading from the plane (in Atlanta). When we arrived in Germany and he saw us at the baggage collection, he started barking. He wanted to get out of his kennel. He finally did when we got to the parking lot. After some snacks and water, he snuggled up next to me and slept all the way to the hotel.

We have not had the kind of snowfall that some states have been getting. Enough to blanket the lawn, though. It hasn't warmed up enough to melt it away. The lawn is now crunchy. :)

Hi Mush

Thanks for the wishes. We will be settled as soon as our stuff arrives from the States.
Wish it was warmer, though. It is uncomfortable to run a lot of errands in freezing weather.

Warm hugs to you too.

Hello Ladybird

Nice to meet you. I am in Bavaria now. I used to live in Rheinland-Pfalz a few years ago - a small village called Oberhambach, about 1 hour from Kaiserslautern and Saarbruecken.

Do drop by again.
