New beginnings
My partial hiatus is almost coming to an end. August has been a crazy month due to so many activities on my plate. Mostly because I was preparing to leave Germany. I could neither blog nor blog-hop as much as I wanted to because I was busy sorting out and packing up our stuff.
Apart from that, I was busy volunteering at a five-day children's camp at a military base chapel and attending several courses prior to that camp. I will write about that in the coming week. I am now sitting in the good old U.S. of A. - relieved that we arrived safely and back in our comfortable home. A new beginning for us.
With this new beginning, I have decided to give my blog a new look. In a way, it also marks my fifth month in the blogosphere.
As soon as I get settled, I will return to regular blogging again. In the meantime, here's something I have always enjoyed reading (this was circulated some years back).
*********************************************
JOHN CLEESE'S LETTER TO AMERICA
To the citizens of the United States of America:
In light of your failure to elect a competent President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately.
Her Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories (excepting Kansas, which she does not fancy).
Your new prime minister, Tony Blair, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.
To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:
1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium," and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour', 'favour' and 'neighbour.'
Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix "ize" will be replaced by the suffix "ise." You will learn that the suffix 'burgh' is pronounced 'burra'; you may elect to re-spell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you find you simply can't cope with correct pronunciation. Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels (look up "vocabulary"). Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication.
2. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize."
3. You will relearn your original national anthem,"God Save The Queen", but only after fully carrying out Task #1(see above).
4. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. November 2nd will be a new national holiday, but to be celebrated only in England. It will be called "Come-Uppance Day."
5. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to
handle a gun.
6. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.
7. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric immediately and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.
8. The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling "gasoline") - roughly $6/US gallon. Get used to it.
9. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with mayonnaise but with vinegar.
10. Waiters and waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.
11. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer," and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager." American brands will be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.
12. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie MacDowell attempt English dialogue in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.
13. You will cease playing American "football." There is only one kind of proper football; you call it "soccer." Those of you brave enough will, in time, will be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies).
Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the "World Series" for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable.
14. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.
15. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due backdated to 1776.
Thank you for your co-operation.
John Cleese

Wah... so many people giving their blog new look lah now!
So you're back in the US. Oooh... must have been very hectic sorting and packing up stuff. But for me, the part I hate most would be the UNPACKING part... already feeling tired just mentioning it... oh dear...
Hi j.t.,
You're back in Texas, USA!
It's good to be back in your own comfortable home, ya?
Take your time to settle in and I will be here waiting to read your updates.
Have a great weekend.
Hi, j.t
Welcome back !
I like your "new look", it's great :)
Hi JT, You now back in the States, the Lone Star State?
Nice new blog page, love the cozy cottage home. Can see you appreciate paintings, me too.
I love the colour of your page. Peach? Beige?
Ha ha, enjoyed your article here. Cute.
See you when you settled down and keep well, JT. Lee.
Hi Pi
I have been doing so much packing and unpacking in the last 2 years, I get exhausted just thinking about it.
When we first moved to Germany, I could not wait to clear out all the boxes. Thank goodness for a small storage building we have, I am going to take my time with the boxes now. :)
Hi Nyonya
It is so true.. nothing like home. I took only what I really needed to Germany (practical things). So you can imagine the joy to be back among my favourite stuff. :)
By the way, I am in Louisiana.
Hi Linken
Thanks! This new look will stay for a while until I get jelak. :D
Hope all is well with you.
Hi Lee,
Ah! back in the States. We sold the house in the Lone Star State. We are now living in Louisiana. Remember, I mentioned the small house by the lake? That's where we are. :)
The colour on my page came about when I played around with the colour codes. It is peach - one of my favourite colours.
I'll be around and will ease back into blogging slowly. Glad you enjoyed that article.
Hi JT,
Wow! You're back in the states...Gosh! Sounds so far away. Germany pun jauh..ha ha. Settle down dear and we can back in the swing of our chats.
Btw, what a lovely new look. Hey, Pi Bani tukar, I pun tukar. Yes I like your colour. Peach is refreshing. I love peach. Cheers.
Hi Ruby
The States does sound far away - half the world away. :) Now, instead of a 12-hour flight back home, I will have at least 26 hours to endure. Oh joy! hahaha
I noticed that you and Pi Bani have a new blog look - both are lovely. Sometimes we just need refurbishments for a fresh look - time to spruce up my house too. ;)
I was contemplating a blog change about two weeks ago but did not have the time to play around with colours and art. Finally did it when I found some down time last night. Thanks for the compliments. Sure will be glad when I can get back to the swing of things (and chats). :)
Oh wow, you're back in the US! glad to hear that the move was ok. we're actually on the move as well - should be in the UK by the end of next week!
Just a question, when you were in Germany, did you use a shipping co. to ship your stuff back to the US? If so, which one? We've been recommended DHL (Deutsche Post) but are wondering if there are any other options!
Anyway, looking forward to catching up on your previous entries!
ColourMeCrazy,
And "oh wow!" to you too... moving to the UK? Which part?
We used a shipping company but that was last year when we shipped the house contents. We returned to Germany for a short stint early this year bringing only a few things we needed. So everything was mailed through US Postal service.
We used Rettenmeyer but I cannot seem to find their contact address anywhere.
Anyway, this is the website for a list of shippers http://www.escapeartist.com/moving/moving.htm
If I do come across Rettenmeyer's contact details, I will let you know. :)
I haven't used DHL (Deutsche Post) so I am not sure how good a service they provide. I have found Deutsche Post reliable for many other services.
Hi J.T.
Welcome home! It always feels good to come home to your own surroundings, isn't it? Journey back to M'sia will take twice as long now. By the way, I like the paintings on your blog. Very soothing and matching, and the Letter to America, very good and entertaining!
Looking forward to reading more on your blog!
wowwww... welcome back... a house by the lake in Lousiana.... my dream house !! I could see you grinning all the time... I'm so much happy for you :)
I love John Cleess's letter especially #13.... once I was so mad with this football for the same reason.. it stops for every 15/20 seconds..but when I knew the game... stoppings were nothing..all I wanted was the TOUCHDOWN..( wait until I get my ASTRO backhome..I'll go for football not soccer..)
j.t.
Take your time unpacking but continue blogging ASAP. My site will be empty without your visit. The Three Angels Part 2 coming soon.
I wonder why the Americans didnt change the spelling of 'your' when they did it to almost every other word with the letters 'ou'.
I may be going to USA soon to discover it like the Brits did years ago. Or I might as well discover Mother England first before discovering the land called America? How nice to have my name engraved in history as the founder of England in 2007 and America in 2008.
I love the new look JT. Always love your blog decor, you shd help me redecorate mine - I got now creative bones in my body to do it!
Oh JT!!!
Nice to see you will be blogging more regularly again...=)
Have missed your *ahem* almighty presence in the Net *Heehee*...
How's things going? I hope well...
As for John Cleese, he's a classic man! And hot...;)
Hi JT, glad u r more settled down now, good luck with the rest of your settling down = ) Another good entry JT, gv me the giggles! so cooL, wish it was true heheheheh
Hi Dawn
It is good to be back in my own home.
I appreciate the compliments about my blog. Looking forward to a regular life again. :)
Hello Sarinah (LUJ)
It is good to be back. The place where I live is quiet - very good for a retirement spot. The neighbours are nice, which makes up for peaceful living.
So you love American football. I just cannot sit through a game. A little bit here and there is OK. :)
You must be looking forward to your return home. All the best to you and the family.
Hello Zawi,
Yup, I plan to do a few boxes at a time. I'm not going anywhere so I can go slow with that.
Now, removing the letters 'ou' from 'your' would have looked strange, wouldn't it? But I believe it has been done already - at least informally when writing quick messages.
So, which part of the US or UK are you planning to visit?
It is a nice dream to have one's name engraved somewhere for discovering already famous places. :D But you always have a shot at discovering unchartered territories. Go with the wind, Zawi. :)
Looking forward to reading The Three Angels Part 2.
Hi Elviza
Thank you sis.. appreciate the compliments.
I would love to help you redecorate, if you can wait for me to return to Malaysia (not sure when yet). I prefer to do it with the owner present. Now, Starbucks sounds like a good place, don't you think? :)
Take care, my dear. A big hug to cute Luqman.
Oh Daphne!!!! :)
My almighty presence? hahaha
vely funneee
Things are going ok here. Love the quieter surroundings. Although the lake is not directly outside my window, I still get a view of the water. A calming effect compared to the last place where we were in an apartment by the main street. Soon I will start working on cleaning up the surroundings and attempt to cultivate a flower garden. *crossing fingers they won't die on me* :D
See you on MSN soon. *hug*
Hi Mush
Thanks for dropping by. At the rate I am going, I think my settling in will take about 6 months! :D
And adjustment to all things American may take ... forever!
jt, new look and a new place ha? Congratulations and all the best. I am still running around like headless chicken - am spending more time in the train and plane than at home. Hopefully mid september will bring some kind of normality back.
We're moving to Surrey...not sure where yet! Phew - not looking forward to the move, which should be by the end of this week! we're so disorganised. Thanks for the list of shippers by the way.
Hope you're settling in well! and looking forward to reading more of your posts!
Hi Jt...Lovely...lovely... I love your new refurbishment... kindda cheerful you know...
Welcome back to a place that you are most comfortable in...And let us know what's cookin' there ya...
oh yeah... the real football is soccer! hehe...
well... a new destination huh... new experience... and certainly... new hunks to be checked out haha!
Welcome back my dear!
*big bear hugs*
Nice layout.. it's soo cool!
hello woman,
So relocated already. Fantastic. Like your new look and the colour scheme. The wall of the cottage in your pic is exactly the same as the one I have of a painting that was in my cafe. It was the only thing I took back when I sold the cafe. I love that painting so much because that's the kind of place I would like to operate my cafe from. And we'll be waiting at the press club for your six songs.
hi darling :
welcome back ! love your new look , all those lovely picture on it , also peach is my kind of colour too .
take it easy lot ot pack right ?
Hello Kak Teh
Thanks for dropping by despite your busy schedule. Here's wishing you a "chicken with a head" days soon. Take care and don't forget to breathe. :)
ColourMeCrazy
I am settling in fairly easy over here. Maybe because it is my own place and the surroundings are familiar. Oh yeah... and everything is in English. :)
Wishing you all the best with your move.
Hi Raden
Thank you for the compliments about my blog.
It is good to be back. I miss reading/visiting so many blogs in the past month. Hope to get back in the swing of things soon.
Hey Zewt
Yeah.. the real football is soccer. Once someone told me that soccer is for a bunch of nancies. He said football (American) is a tough game. I told him, "First of all, American football reminds me of a rugby game. If you can touch the ball, it is not FOOT ball." Then I asked him, "how tough can a footballer be if he has to pad himself all over to avoid injury?" :)
New hunks to check out? hmmm... I wonder. Less fit people and no uniforms to impress me. It will be a treat to come across one over here. hahaha
Hey Angel Eyes
Thank you, my dear - for the welcome back and the compliments.
*big bear hugs* too
Hello Tony,
Thank you for the compliments. I find that painting soothing and inviting. I can imagine your cafe. Simply lovely. :)
Six songs at the Press Club, huh? That is going to be one helluva singing session. :D
Hello Darling Pearly
Thank you for the compliments, my dear.
Unpacking? Slowly but surely. My first targets upon moving in were to get the bedsheets changed, bathroom cleaned, floors swept and kitchen in order. Oh! and ... satellite TV and internet connection on. :)
Hi J.T.,
Like the new look. And the entry by John Cleese... absolutely hilarious.
It's been a while but I'm back. Do visit if you have the time.
Bigfooz
Hi Bigfooz
Thanks for visiting. John Cleese is hilarious. I can imagine that whole entry being read out by him in his accent. :D
Happy to know you are back. I will visit your blog, for sure. :)
no wonder uv been so busy to blog. didn realise ur actually moving back to the US. whylah not cali? ;) nvmd. at least ur a step closer and not to mention by a lake! *wink*
Hi Princess Farina
I wish it was California but I go where the husband goes (and where his job takes him). I was hoping Hawaii but that was a far-fetched dream. So, just go with the flow. :)
At least I am just two time zones away from you. ;)
Hi JT, I read somewhere the fishing is very good in Louisiana? Any crocs that want me for dinner? I mean not crocs, but alligators?
Lots of swamps there too, good fishing grounds, huh?
Have a nice day, JT, Lee.
Hi Lee,
The lake by our place is good for Bass fishing. At least that is what I was told when we first moved here.
As for alligators, there are several restaurants here that sell the meat. You can eat the alligators instead of those creatures eating you. :D
I've seen the meat in the frozen section of some stores too. Have you tried alligator meat? :)
You have a good day too, Lee.
JT, nice colour. very earthy, very soothing to the eyes. lurve it dear.
oh my.... u have a house by the lake? i'm so jealous. i want one of those too!
Hi, I hopped over from u.lee's. Dropped by many times but this is the first time I leave a mark here.
The change of skin is great. And I always like the pictures you put up.
All the best.
welcome back j.t. :) has been an exhausting month for u. Now that ure back in ur comfortable home with the lake view (geee..must be such a wonderful sight to see every morning u wake up with a cup of hot drink..ahhh...) take ur time to unpack.
That blog header pic is so lovely! and ur new profile pic, that looks lovely! U do look good with fringes :)
looking forward to ur postings once things get more or less settled and u get back to blogging on a reguarly basis
Cheers and take care!
Hi Sue
Thanks for the compliments about my blog. :)
You want a house by the lake? Come on down and buy one here. ;) Sure beats buying one you-know-where and then finding a body in the fridge. hehehe
Hello Aiyah Nyonya
Thanks for the compliments and for leaving a mark this time. :)
You have a nice day. See you around the blogs.
Hi Winnie
I took a break from sorting out my clothes to blog a little. As soon as I get settled, I will begin writing entries more regularly.
Thanks for the compliments. Appreciate them (from you and everyone here). Let's see how long I can take this look before I get "itchy" again. :D
Hi J.T., welcome back to where you belong. I like your new website design and colours. So cool! Am a bit busy now. Will pop-in as often as I can.Cheers.
Hi Rajahram
Thanks for the compliments. It is good to be back. A little rusty in the brain, though. Need some time to get into my groove. :)
Cheers to you too!
Welcome home JT.
Like your blog new theme.
Jamy
Hi Jamy
Thanks... we are finally in the same continent. :D
You take care.
welcome home JT! am finally catching up with blogs after my trip back!
Hi Ms J
It is good to be home - an English-speaking country. :)
I've been enjoying your holiday posts. Baby J is such a darling. Glad everything went well and you ate some good food. I miss pineapple tarts! :)
