Tagged - Blonde Bimbo Moments
I have been tagged by Typhoon Sue to reveal my blonde, bimbo moments. Actually, I find it a little unfair to stereotype blondes as bimbos. I have met many smart blonde-haired individuals. Whoever who came up with that term obviously had some hard luck being in the company of blondes who did not have anything going on up there. I will try to ignore that for now and just play the game.
I tried to recall moments that made me feel foolish or inept. I know I had quite a few starting from my teen years but these stand out:
Moment No. 1 - Screening calls for mom
This happened many, many years ago. Mom was not in the mood to chat with anyone on the phone. She wanted some rest. It was a quiet afternoon - perfect time for relaxing. When the phone rang, she asked me to find out first who it was. She never turned down outstation calls from relatives. It turned out to be a distant relative. I was not sure if she wanted to take this call or not. So, I said, "Hold on, let me see if she is at home. I just walked in the house and have not seen her yet."
I asked mom if she wanted to talk to that person. Mom figured she was trying to sell something based on their previous conversation. She told me to say that she is not at home and will call the relative another day. Just at that moment, my brain did not want to cooperate with me. I conveyed the message - "Mom says she is not at home .... (at this point my mom slapped her forehead and I realised what I said). Err.. I mean mom is not around. I will ask her to call you back." I put down the phone and mom and I had a good laugh. I am sure that relative knew.
Moment No. 2 - The unrecognisable swimming instructor
(mentioned in an earlier post)
My colleagues and I were taking up swimming lessons at that pool in Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur. Our coach was a young guy named Saad, who preferred to be called James (I don't know why, don't ask me) . For our first lesson, we met James at the pool at opening time - 5:30pm, I think. He signed us in.
After our first lesson was over, James asked us if we could come in at 5:00pm for the next eight weeks. We agreed. I figured that would be good just in case any of us drowned, we won't have a public spectacle. James told us that he would bring our membership cards to our office before the next lesson. These cards will ensure entry to the pool before opening hours.
One day, the receptionist buzzed me and said there was a guy waiting to see me. I wondered who could it be because I was not expecting anyone to drop by. I forgot all about the membership cards. I went out the reception area. I could not make out where I saw this guy but he looked so familiar. I asked him, "May I help you?"
He said, "Jacqui, it's me James." I then realised who he was as he handed me four cards. Feeling a little embarassed about not recognising him, I had to apologise. I said, "Oh my! I am so sorry James. I did not recognise you with your clothes on." (Needless to say, James blushed and I was totally embarassed).
*********************************************
I could try to remember more to share but then I won't be able to publish this post tonight. Also, I am 13 hours behind Malaysia now, I wanted to get this out before the long holiday weekend sets in.
Here's wishing my fellow Malaysians, A Happy Merdeka Day. May our leaders have less blonde, bimbo moments. :D

love that bimbo moment no.2.
did he then blush, or did he wink at u? hahaha
Hi Sue
He blushed alright. I think he was too embarassed to wink. hahaha
Dear Jac,
Muahahahahahahaah! Oh, he must be embarassed. Hik hik hik...
Hi Elviza
A moment I will never ever forget (quite evident since this is the second time I am talking about it). :D
Oh yeah, I remember you telling about the swimming instructor incident earlier. I wonder who was more embarassed, him or you... :)
As for the "Mom says she's not home" incident, I think you're not the only one who did that. But I think most of the time it would involve LITTLE kids???
Hi Pi
Who was more embarassed? Let's toss a coin for that. :D
As for mom's phone call, I agree that most of the time it would involve little kids. Some bulb fused in this big kid's brain that moment. :)
j.t.
Whos says you have nothing to write about? Even small old recycled pieces should do cos not all of us may have the privilege to read it the first time. Like what you said, 'just go with the flow' nothing will go unnoticed or unappreciated.
Hi Zawi
I spoke too soon, huh? Yeah, I will just go with the flow and hopefully get back to my groove someday.
Thanks Zawi. I appreciate your encouragement. :)
hehehehehe!! Love your blonde moments! Happy Merdeka Day to you too!
JT dearest...Hahahaha...those are funny mmemories eh...I bet the second one brings more laughter now if you recall this moment with James...
Happy Merdeka Day sis..how's the celebration in Texas?
moment no.1 - sounds so familiar. I too had done that before during one of those calls my Mother do not want to answer. My Mother's reaction was just like your mom's.
Hi JT, You sure made me laugh not recognising someone with clothes, arhaaa ha ha. Cute!
Interesting post this.
You still busy unpacking, settling down in good old US of A, in Louisana?
Have a nice day, JT, Lee.
hi dear JT :
I can't stop laughing that* mum say she is not in*ahha one of my kids did that to me once hhaah you are not along .
still packing it does take time , don't forget you karabu the cucumber would wait for long hehehe.
take care my dear xxxx
Hi JT, I agree with you that many of the blondes I have the priviledge to meet are not dumb at all! One of them is my mentor at work. Very intelligent.
I think I have those convasations that mom is not home type. When I said that "Mom said she is not home"....my mom always gives me that killer mom look. Oopps!
Happy Merdeka day to you, JT!
aiyo JT. ur moment no.2 memang priceless! hahhahahaha.
ColourMeCrazy,
Thanks! You have a good weekend and happy moving. :)
Raden dearest,
Oh yes... whenever I recall what I said to James, I laugh to myself.
Have a good weekend, sis. :)
No celebration here. Just read blogs and local news to get the feel of Merdeka. I have an American flag on my front porch but I will imagine it Malaysian just for a day. :D
Hello Aiyah Nyonya
You too? It is funny, isn't it, when we think back about that moment? ... especially with mother's reaction. Makes you go "oops". :D
Have a good weekend.
Hi Lee,
I am clearing things slowly and settling in comfortably as the days pass. I am not unpacking everything because I don't need to use them immediately. :)
Have a nice day too, Lee.
Pearly dear,
Ah! I don't feel so alone now with that phone mistake. Aiyah Nyonya did that too. :)
I made the kerabu last night. It was good eating it with rice. This weekend, I am going to make some sambal belacan ... and make enough for future consumption.
Hi Dawn
You too? Looks like the "mom said she is not at home" moment runs in the family. Oh! I am in good company. haha
You have a good Merdeka day. (just another normal day in the States, right?)
Hi Princess Farina
Priceless! That's the word. :D
Have a good weekend, dear.
Hi J.T., very interesting post you have put up today regarding your bimbo moments.Share with us your other moments.
Thanks for the Merdeka greetings. And Happy Merdeka to you as well.
haha j.t. well, at least u did that to ur mom..i recall my ex-colleague did that to my boss! hahaha
have a great Merdeka day too, any special events going on there with the 'malaysian community'?
Hi Rajahram
If I can recall more, I would share ... possibly in Part 2. :D
No promises, though.
Have a good weekend. :)
Hi Winnie
Oh dear... that would have been an embarassing moment for the boss. :)
Re Merdeka celebrations ... I have never had the opportunity to live close enough to other Malaysians overseas. Thus, no clubs or events. That is why I love it when I get to go home during a festive season.
Have a good weekend, Winnie. :)
"Blond moment" huh? I wonder if there's a similar local term, you know a more Malaysian one? How about a "goreng pisang" moment?
Hey Jacqui,
Hahahaha...The first blonde moment is understandable, but the second...Hmmm...You naughty, naughty girl! Poor James aka Saad...Hahaha...Kidding ler...
And a Happy Merdeka to you in US too! You and Princess can wave your flags together...
*Hugs*
Oh by the way JT,
About our leaders not having blonde moments, you can keep dreaming lar huh? Sometimes, they even have blonde moments intentionally...And these are the times I wonder who is 'blonder'? The leaders for saying stupid stuff, or us for voting them so they get the chance to say stupid stuff out loud, and get it published in the papers? Sigh...
Hi j.t,
I just could not stop laughing hahhah....you could not recognise James...ahahhahaa....
I guess we have our bimbo moments, some time or other.
Happy Merdeka!
**pssst.....wait, I go have a good look...so far never bother to notice if the leaders got hair or not..**
Hi JT, I must tell you this...I dreamt of you last night. Yes! It was a funny dream. I told my wife this morning and she laughed, bless her soul for having a good sense of humour. I told her I dreamt of a beautiful Eurasian lady named JT.
Anyway, I dreamt I was at the Selangor club and you walked in wearing a sensational blue sarong kebaya, and there I was saying, "hey, JT, is that you"? And Then I exclaimed, "Holy Smoke"! That lost the dream, ha ha. Cheh! Maybe if the dream had continued then I would certainly have asked you dance the Waltz with me, ha ha.
Hope the dream returns. Ha ha.
You keep well, JT. Lee.
PS, JT, I have been meaning to ask you this re your Blog title, "Jacqui's curve"...which 'curve' is it? Ha ha. Of course my ahemm mind thinking of certain curves, whooohooo!
Hi Tunku Halim
"Goreng pisang" moment. That's Malaysian alright. :D
Hi Daphne
Poor James. hahaha
I still cannot forget the look on the receptionist's face when I said that. A look of shock. :D
Hope you had a good Merdeka Day.
Oh yeah Daphne,
Our leaders.. you have a point there. Who is "blonder"? sigh
Hi Nyonya Penang
Yup, I guess we do. We all have our bimbo moments some time or other.
As far as I know, (I could be mistaken), the leaders who have been having bimbo moments have receding hair lines or nearly bald. ;)
That only means it is not the hair or the colour that makes the bimbo. It is what lies beneath. :D
Hope you had a good Merdeka Day. How was the fireworks show?
Hi Lee,
Oh my... you dreamt of me? That is funny and interesting. I guess that dream remains a cliffhanger. :D
If I do return the dream, I will be sure to tell you. Maybe I will appear in the red Vera Wang gown. ;)
Which 'curve'? I assure you, it has nothing to do with any of my curves (if I have any left). haha
(hmm... should I be flattered?)
Thanks Lee and you have a good weekend. ;)
Ha ha, good one, especially James (???). What you really meant to say in public was - I didn't recognise you as you always "do" me without your clothes on - kah kah kah.
Hi JT,
Both your blonde bimbo moments are funny. Cuute. I agree may our leaders have less blonde bimbo moments! I assure you their's not so funny. Irritating yes!
Hi JT, nope, the dream did not have a continuation, ha ha. No chance for that waltz, ha ha. Wow, you still remember that red gorgeous Vera Wang, huh? See! I fitted you with the right outfit...I sure know my women, ha ha. Experience la, ahemmm. One look at your profile and nothing less than a Vera Wang, a red one too, ha ha.
Re 'curves', just kidding.
Hey, re your mention of 'no curves'...your profile pic betrays you, ha ha, all those curves and me with no brakes, arhaaa ha ha.
Keep well, JT, Lee.
ps, regret I had to installed "comment moderation" in my pondok as had some disgusting racist comments in my blog this morning, all 5, long ones too. Have wiped them off. Holy Smoke! Sure shocked me when I open my blog earlier. Sad to see there are such people out there with nothing better to do. Lee.
Hi Apandi
Very funny, Apandi, very funny. :)
You still remember that "do me" incident, huh?
Have a good weekend with your equipment - camera lah!
Hi Ruby
I've had more bimbo moments but just cannot recall them. They happened too many years ago and NOT on a national level. :D
If some of our leaders had to blog about their moments, they will never be short of contributions from the rakyat. haha
You have a great weekend, Ruby.
Hi Lee,
Oh yeah! I loved that red gorgeous Vera Wang gown. You certainly know your women.
Oh! I knew you were kidding about the 'curves'. I am cool about it. :)
Re the "comment moderation", I had to do that when I had the same thing too. In fact, I was still new to blogging - about two weeks old - and my blog was attacked with those horrid comments. They were racially and politically damning.
I agree, some of these people have nothing else better to do.
j.t.
Not too late eh? Selamat Hari Merdeka di rantau!
Wah, your James' moment - hehehehe, everybody can imagine the scenario- even not knowing how he looked like at that time!
I had my bimbo moment too - at one time, I replied this one guy's sms with somethg like, "hi,this is rad's friend. she's busy at the moment." And, he believed it! He msgd back, "Could you please ask rad to...." Heheheh! two dumb ppl!
Hi Rad
The mind cannot be alert all the time. Thus, bimbo moments. I am in good company. :)
By the way, the look of James' face was more than enough to remember it a lifetime. :D
It is still not late to wish - Happy Merdeka Day to you too. I hope you had a good weekend holiday.
