I'm back
As you may have noticed, I have changed my blog look. It was getting a little 'blah' for me. However, I still like my peach-coloured background and decided to retain that element.
What have I been up to lately? Nothing much except eat, sleep and breathe Facebook! :) Suddenly there have been a surge of long lost friends and relatives coming out of the woodworks. It has been exciting catching up, posting photos of yesteryears (some really, really old - before I was born!) and reminiscing the simpler days gone by.
I have also been challenging myself to some word games and I have to say it is becoming addictive to the point of obsessive, which makes it stressful at times. It is time to let go. Just like blogging, it is meant to be fun not work. I will still be active in Facebook, just not stressing myself out to reach a goal in those darn word games. :D I, however, have to thank some of my friends who have put me up to the challenge (they are bloggers as well - you know who you are). ;)
It has been a dark and cloudy day - very unusual since we have had nothing but extreme heat. With Edouard making landfall (sorry to those living on the coast down south), it has brought my area (and many more) much relief. The latest news:
Edouard inland, beginning to weaken

Tropical Storm Edouard (60 mph) is swirling inland over extreme southeast Texas now and beginning to weaken.
As of 10 a.m. CDT, the center of Edouard was located about 40 miles west of Port Arthur, Texas, and moving toward the WNW at 15 mph.
A tropical storm warning remains in effect between Cameron, Louisiana, and San Luis Pass, Texas. The hurricane watch has been cancelled.
Heavy rain and gusty winds are expected to continue in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana over the next several hours. Rainfall of 3 to 5 inches is likely along the track of Edouard, although isolated totals of 10 inches are not out of the question.
Winds gusted as high as 68 mph at Sabine Pass North just after the center of the storm crossed the coast this morning. Winds will drop off as Edouard continues to churn inland, but a few power outages are still likely in some of the more vigorous rainbands.

Elsewhere in the tropics, both the Atlantic and eastern Pacific Basins remain quiet. In the western Pacific, Tropical Storm Kammuri is expected to make landfall in Mainland China west of Hong Kong on Wednesday morning (U.S. time).
Anyway, I digressed. I was not supposed to blog about the weather, although it is an interesting subject ... seriously.
I was looking through some of my stuff that finally arrived from Malaysia (I chose sea mail) and found my old diary filled with poems - some I composed and some collected from other sources. Here's one which was penned on 17th March 1986. Warning: It is silly!
Out of the blues one day
Appeared a guy about 5 feet tall
His words were made of stammers
Which my friend could not make out at all
He introduced himself as someone,
Jacob Singh if I can recall
He stammered so much that all I could hear was
"Aaa...aaa ... I'm Jacob Singh", I think that was all.
He handed a gift to Christina
I think a week after that stammering incident
This time he spoke more fluently
But his shivers seem imminent
I was so right, I saw him shiver
Handing a gift so neatly wrapped
He handed it saying "Here's sssomething for ... for... y..you"
I think to wake him, he needed s slap
And so because of his height
We decided to name him 50
50 stands for 5 feet zero
Look at him and you will say "What a sight"
So, nowadays, if he's around
Christina beware, don't frown
For your 5 feet hero is bound
To catch you and pin you to the ground
Note: His name was not Jacob Singh, after all. It was something else, which I have forgotten. He was a student from Bangalore, India. After handing that gift to Christina, things warmed up between them.
Ah! memories.

Welcome back, Jacqui! That poem is so cute and well-penned.
You are right about them word games being addictive. I thought they will provide some stress relief for me these past two weeks but I ended up with sore fingers, shoulder aches and tired eyes. Plus, I am still at the bottom of the ladder and staying there since football season is around the corner. :)
I just returned to blog-hopping myself and it sure is nice to read this post of yours. Keep them coming!
I like the new look :-)
Hi Rita
I think I have reached my potential for now - word games in Facebook. I cannot push myself anymore unless I want to end up with achy eyes and limbs and tremendous stress. haha
Besides, I need my health for other entertaining stuff like blogging, movies, favourite TV series and computer games (medieval war games). :D
Thanks for the encouragement, Rita. Appreciate it.
Hi Julie!!!
Welcome to my blog. Thanks for the compliments.
See you around.
Hello JT,
Ha ha..great minds think alike!
Me too I came back blogging, but will not be as regular as before.
Addicted to Facebook? You said it. Like Ritam, aches here & there..LOL.
Hey what a lovely poem. Really they warmed up? Woo...Cheers dear.
Hi Ruby
Really? You are back to blogging too. Gosh .. great minds do think alike. :P
Oh yes, Christina and that guy dated for about a year or so after that incident. Actually, 'warmed up' is an understatement. hahaha
Cheers and have a great day, Ruby.
Welcome back Jacqui! Hope Edouard doesnt come your way. btw, isnt edouard, french or something? i wonder why they named it tht. lol.
Hi Farina (salt n turmeric)
Edouard did not blast through my area... thankfully. It would have been scary if it did. I was not around when Hurricane Rita happened in Sep 2005 (a month after Katrina). We were still in Europe then (and our house was near Port Arthur, TX). That hurricane tore down our car port and uprooted a huge tree. It fell five feet short of our bedroom window.
I believe Edouard is a French name. No idea why that name but it gives some people an idea what to name their next son (even more significant if the boy was conceived during the said hurricane! haha)
They used to name hurricanes after females and I wondered what were they insinuating. haha
Thankfully they realised men can be just as unpredictable and destructive. :D
jt, welcome back to blogging - am always here - faithfully blogging abt whatever and still resisting facebook. Your poems reminds me of some i have penned down for favourite teachers and friend...sigh! I dont know where they are now.
Hi JT,
That was quite a gale you guys had there. Hope everyone's a OK.
i guess we'll see in 10mths time if theres a lot more edouard around. hahahha.
i just hope they wont name it farina for the next one. :P but like u said, now that they go for men's name, my name should be safe.
Hi JT, hey! You're back. Didn't know till saw your callsign at Dawn's.
Love the poem, ha ha. And glad you kept this beautiful beige colour.
Anyway, you have a great weekend and take care re the storm...Lee.
Welcome back JT! = ) Nice to have you in the blogsphere again babe ; ) Very cute poem. Well, blessed for the cooler weather JT, we hv cooler climates here too, very much welcomed after the heatwave. Big hugs for now and hv a superb weekend! I like your refreshing new blog skin ; )
That's a damned nice poem, J.T.. nice to drag all that memorabilia back to the States, eh? Hmmm... old shoe boxes full of love letters too? ;)
Wow, loved reading about your travels down my former hunting grounds. Did you know I went to college in San Antone? Yup, Trinity, Class of '85. Also spent a night in the downtown jail there once but that's another story. Heh.
Oh, forgot to comment earlier, JT. I really liked that wedding picture. So demure-lah!
Hello Kak Teh
I figured I needed to let go of Facebook a bit and share my time with other interests. :)
Now, I would love to read the poems you penned. I bet they were good ones.
Hi Cakapaje
Everyone that I knew (not that many in the States!) were ok. Just glad it was not as destructive as the ones in 2005.
Thanks.
Hi Farina
hahaha ...
Although right now the hurricanes have male names, eventually they will go back to the females and we will both have a chance of having hurricanes named after us. :P
Hi Lee!!!!
Yes, I am back. I have been to your blog but did not leave a comment. :)
Thanks for the compliments.
Hope all is well with you.
Hi Mush
Thank you!!!!
Glad to be back. At least I won't have too much of aching limbs and head with Facebook 24/7. haha
I wish it stayed cool after the tropical storm but it didn't. I was over in Austin in the weekend and it was terribly hot. Counting the days till Fall ... which we probably won't see till about November.
Hugs!
Hi MS
So nice to hear from you again. Thank you for the compliments. I thought the poem was silly but I guess some people can appreciate that. :P
Old shoe boxes full of love letters? Well ... it depends. If you are talking about the ones from my husband ... yes, I kept them all. The others, which can't really be counted as love letters (there were no declarations of climbing any mountains or catching the moon and stars for me. haha) went into the bin before I left Malaysia back in 1999.
wow.. I did not know you studied in San Antone? Downtown jail experience? You should blog about that. I thought it is rather interesting that San Antonio sounds so Spanish yet the names and places around that city are typically German.
Oh yeah... thanks for the compliment on the demure photo of mine. That was a rare occasion! :P
lets put it this way. when stuck with strangers in the middle of nowhere, whats the best topic one can discuss? the weather of course...:P
welcome back!
KC
Hi JT,
That is a cheeky, fun poem. Can't help smiling while I was reading it.
By the way, you are difinitely right about facebook being addictive. :) Still can't get over it yet.
Hi KC
You are right, weather seems to be the safest topic to talk about with strangers. You will never know where the conversation will go if we start on polictics or religion! :)
Hi Nana
Cheeky poem huh? I guess you could say that. :)
I say that I want to take a break from Facebook but that darn thing still has a hold on me (not as bad as before though). However, some days I have to slap myself silly and tell myself there are other things to do. haha
j.t.
Sure glad that you are back. Just like Kak Teh, I have stayed away from Facebook knowing that it will be a distraction from my blogging.
Just blog about anything as it is the only way for us to keep coming back to your site. How to come if there is no new post?
Hi Zawi
Thanks ...
you have a point. :) I will try, ok.
Take care.
Hey Jacqui,
Jacob Singh? Hehe...No 'ring' there lar wei, but really nice poem! *Clap clap*
Anyway, this new-look is a little easier to read, in a way. Looks like Raden Galoh's font/type...=)
Will see you around...Hugs...
Hey Daphne
Thanks.
Oh.. I did not know my new font/type looks like Raden Galoh's. When I was looking to change it, I just picked what caught my eyes.
Hope you are having a good time in Toronto.
