Of Asses and Governments
The local paper read: PASTOR'S ASS OUT FRONT.
The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.
The next day, the local paper headline read: BISHOP SCRATCHES PASTOR'S ASS. This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the pastor to get rid of the donkey. The pastor decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent.
The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day: NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.
The bishop fainted. He informed the nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for $10. The next day the paper read: NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10.
The bishop was buried the next day.
The moral of the story is . . .
Being concerned about public opinion can bring you much grief and misery . . even shorten your life. So be yourself and enjoy life. Stop worrying about everyone else's ass and you'll be a lot happier and live longer!
*******************************************
But in some situations, public opinion matters. This is especially so when one is in public office! When one is in a job to serve others, opinion matters. Seems like some people have been living this mantra for too long. They are enjoying for sure ... at the expense of others.
We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office. - Aesop
A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves. - Edward R. Murrow
The government is merely a servant -- merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn't. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them. - Mark Twain
States are not moral agents, people are, and can impose moral standards on powerful institutions. - Noam Chomsky
The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government. - Thomas Jefferson
A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned -- this is the sum of good government. - Thomas Jefferson

Helo JT,
Thanks for sharing this..:)
I notice the date of posting is March 14...is that on purpose?
JT, entertaining as usual!! Aaah, the asses out there no longer care abt public opinion. Take care.
DEarest Jt...
This is a good advice, or reminder... Thx, but why the date is March 14?
Take care and love
i will :)
Hello Nightwing
oh no.. I did not check the date before posting it. Sometimes I keep articles/jokes in the blog archives but post-date them (so they stay on top of the list and don't sit in between the previous posts).
Thanks for pointing that out. I have changed the date. :)
Hi Kak Teh
Thanks. I am sure many people realise some 'asses' who need to be kicked out of public office. They have been running wild and free in the wrong pasture for too long. :)
You take care too.
Hello Raden
Thanks for pointing out the date. As mentioned to Nightwing earlier, I did not realise I had post-dated it. :)
Sometimes when one blogs late at night, one tends to miss things. A clear indication of the body saying "go to sleep!". :D
Hi Trueblue
If I were back home during this GE, I know who will get my vote.
I wonder if e-voting will be possible in the future. :)
hi dear JT :
just drop in to say HI and take care
Will be back to catch up with you
miss u xxxxxx
Haha, that donkey joke is so funny! I shall have to steal it from you again :P
I thought it was possible for Malaysians who are overseas to vote? The students in France received an e-mail from the embassy asking us to contact them if we were registered to vote.
Hmmm... *thinking which ass I'm gonna vote for this time*
The best ass in town? ;)
Hi Pearly
Thanks for dropping by. I hope you are all caught up with things at home.
I will try to catch you on Skype on of these days. Take care, dear. *hugs*
Miss you.
Hi WP
Be my guest. Steal away the joke. Someone sent that to me a few months back and I have been saving it for one of my posts. :)
It is possible for Malaysians to vote overseas but they are -mostly- government-linked people.
I am curious... these students who received emails from the embassy to vote, are they on some kind of government scholarship programme? ;)
Hi Pi
Sometimes we are not given a good choice. So we choose the lesser of two evils or sit it out. In this case, may the best 'ass' win. :D
e-voting for future general election? i'm for it man. anything as long as i dont drag my ass off to the polling station...sheesh!
Hi JT,
I can't vote for either country so I'm just gonna sit and bitch all I want. I can't vote for our M'sia GE bcoz I'm overseas is really dumb. Makes me wonder should I get naturalized in my adopted country. But then, the Dems and Reps are asse, too, then again I still can vote when I'm overseas!
You have a good weekend, JT. How's the weather like in LA?
Hi KC
E-voting would make it easier - for folks who cannot get out of the house due to illness, busy parents, physically impaired, etc. With this, Malaysians overseas can vote too.
It is ridiculous that they would spend insane amounts of money to buy fame but not upgrade the voting system.
Hi Dawn
I am in the same predicament, so I will join you - sit and bitch. :D
You are the second person I know who has mentioned naturalization in the past two days.
The weather in LA has been rather erratic. We had excellent weather yesterday - gave me a chance to crank up that lawn mower and give our lawn a good trim. Then by night, it got cold and rainy. This morning I heard Shreveport (3 hours from us) had snow showers! I have to look in the sky tonight and see if there is blue moon out there. :D
Have a good weekend, Dawn.
*ROTFL*
the best ass joke I've heard.
like Pi Bani, I was also thinking of which ass to vote for this around. Will be going later this afternoon. I do not know the other ass contesting in my area, but I know and have met the returning ass that I'm definitely not voting for...
Hi Sue
If the returning 'ass' has grazed too much of the pasture, it is about time that candidate hit the long and dusty trails with a load on its back. :)
All the best!
Yeah, we're students sponsored by JPA. Guess that's why...
Haha, enjoyed that ass story very much! Laughed till I coughed! :-)
Hi WP
I thought so. :)
Hope you are doing well there. You are in Lyon, right?
Hi Puteri
Have you caught your breath yet? hahaha
Thanks for dropping by. Drink some water before leaving. :D
